Removing Characters from Automation & List Names
Overview
In an effort to enhance our product security, we've removed the ability to save List Names, Automation Names, Ownership Rule Names, Smart Token Names, Email Footers, Email Template Content Properties, Group Names, and Stage Names (in Automation Map View) with any of the following characters:
< > " ' % ; ( ) & +
This means that new lists and automations cannot be saved if the name contains any of the characters above. Also, if edits are made to an existing list or automation containing one of those characters, you will be prompted to remove those characters before saving. This change is also coming soon to Surveys.
For Group, Stage, Ownership Rule, and Smart Token names, we’ve removed the characters entirely, but your names will still be intact.
Example: If your group, stage, ownership rule, or smart token name was "Marketing (Newsletter;"Monthly")" it will now be listed as "Marketing Newsletter Monthly" within the application.
FAQ
Do I have to change my existing List/Automation Names with those characters and remove them now?
For now, if they already exist, these characters will be left there. If you modify any list or automation in the future with those characters, will not allow you to save it unless all of the disallowed characters are removed.
Will this prevent my Always Updated Lists/Automations from syncing?
Not at all. We know how important it is to keep your business moving so this change shouldn’t interfere with your lists or automations syncing with Bullhorn.
What steps do I have to take to remove those characters from existing Automation/List Names?
If you modify an existing list or automation containing any of these characters, you’ll notice that the Save button will be grayed out. Once you delete the characters from your existing list or automation name, the Save button will appear as normal.
is not allowing me to save my list or automation name, what do I do?
If it's confirmed that you’re not attempting to add any of the above characters in your list or automation name, and you still can’t save your list or automation name, please inform the Support team in the app chat or by emailing automationsupport@bullhorn.com.
Can this feature be turned off for my account?
No it cannot. In the ever-changing technology landscape, we must continue to evolve to ensure we keep up with security compliance to keep your data safe. Your data security is a top priority for us and this change aligns with that goal.
Should I start saving Surveys without those characters?
You can! As this change will be coming soon, it can help prepare for any changes in the future.
My Smart Token/Ownership Rule/Group/Stage name replaced & with "and’"and now categories are listed together.
When we removed the characters from your Smart Token, Ownership Rule, Group, and Stage Names, one of the things we wanted to account for was the "&" character. We decided to simply replace "&" with the word "and". This means that some of your items may be seen as "PBandJ" versus "PB & J". You can edit and save these with new names, as long as the characters above aren't included in the name.
