E-Verify and I-9

Bullhorn Onboarding integrates your system with E-VerifyClosed to simplify and streamline to complexities of the I-9Closed employment eligibility verification process.

I-9

FormClosed I-9 (officially known as Employment Eligibility Verification) is a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services form. It is used to verify the identity and legal authorization of work of all paid employees in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the country.

E-Verify

E-Verify, authorized by Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA), is a web-based system through which employers electronically confirm the employment eligibility of their employees.

In the E-Verify process, employers create cases based on information taken from an employee’s Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. E-Verify then electronically compares that information to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA). The employer usually receives a response within a few seconds either confirming the employee’s employment eligibility or indicating that the employee needs to take further action to complete the case.

E-Verify is administered by SSA and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

E-Verify Service Availability

At times, E-Verify may be unavailable due to external factors, such as a government shutdown or system maintenance. If this happens, we recommend temporarily disabling the Auto Order E-Verify setting to prevent delays in processing.

To adjust this setting, navigate to:

Configuration > Settings > System Settings > Form I-9 & E-Verify > Auto Order E-Verify after signing of I-9 Section 2

Once E-Verify is back online, you can re-enable the setting and resume verification as usual. Stay tuned to official updates for the latest information.

See the article for E-Verify Case Creation for information on how to manually create cases.
