Configuring Default Filters for Autobuild and Recommended Candidates
You need Amplify Search & Match to use this feature. If you are interested in enabling Amplify Search & Match, please reach out to your Account Manager.
As an admin, you can configure the default search filters used by both Autobuild and Recommended Candidates (Automatch). These two features share the same underlying search logic: Autobuild runs when a user manually kicks off an Autobuild search from the Candidate List, while Recommended Candidates runs automatically and displays results on the job record each time it is opened. Any filters you set here apply to both experiences, keeping searches consistent across your team. Users can still adjust, add, or remove filters at any time.
How to Configure Autobuild and Recommended Candidates
To customize Autobuild and Recommended Candidates, you’ll need the Autobuild & Automatch Administration user type entitlement. Contact Bullhorn Support to enable this.
Accessing the Configuration
-
Locate the Autobuild and Automatch section.
Configuring Default Filters
The Filters section determines which criteria are automatically applied when users run an Autobuild search or when Recommended Candidates loads on a job record.
Supported Filter Fields
Administrators can configure the following fields:
| Filter Field | Description |
|---|---|
|
Full Address |
If the Job includes a location, it will be included in the Autobuild criteria if turned on. |
|
Only apply Full Address if |
When enabled, the Full Address criteria only applies when a specified job posting field meets a defined condition. Use this to bypass location filtering for remote roles. |
|
Default Radius Range |
If Full Address is enabled, this lets you define a default address radius. The distance unit (miles or kilometers) is determined by your locale settings. |
|
Status |
Filters candidates by their status. |
|
Work Preference |
Filters candidates by work preference type. |
|
Date Last Modified |
Filters candidates based on when their record was last updated. |
Configuration Steps
For each filter field, you can:
-
Toggle On/Off – Turn the filter on to apply it by default, or off to disable it.
-
Select the operator (if applicable) - Choose from options like Include Any or Exclude.
-
Define the search value - Set the default value(s) you want the system to apply.
Configuring the "Only apply Full Address if" condition
If you want location filtering to apply only to certain roles (for example, to skip filtering for remote jobs):
-
Toggle on Only apply Full Address if.
-
Select a job posting field to use as the condition.
-
Choose an operator and enter one or more values that define when the location filter should apply.
When configured, the Full Address filter only runs for jobs where the specified field meets your condition. Jobs that don't meet the condition bypass location filtering entirely.
What causes the Date Last Modified to update?
The Date Last Modified field updates automatically when any of the following occur:
-
A user updates the record directly. Any change that appears in Activity > Edit History will update the Date Last Modified value.
-
A note is added to the record.
-
A workflow in Bullhorn Automation updates the record.
-
An integration updates the record through the API.
What Users See
Performing an Autobuild Search
When a user initiates an Autobuild search from the Candidate List:
-
The search automatically populates with the administrator-configured default fields.
-
Operators and values appear as they were set in the configuration.
-
Users can override, remove, or add their own filters to refine the search.
Viewing Recommended Candidates
When a user loads the Recommended Candidates card on a job record:
-
The search automatically populates with the administrator-configured default fields.
-
Operators and values appear as they were set in the configuration.
-
Users can click through to this search on the candidate list and override, remove, or add their own filters.
Additional Notes
-
Changes to Autobuild and Recommended Candidates filter settings apply system-wide for all users.
-
Default filters don’t prevent users from adding additional custom filters.
-
Users have the option to override or remove default filters for individual searches.
-
If you're using the Bullhorn Matching Engine to power your Match Candidates step in Automation, any filters you configure for Autobuild and Recommended Candidates will also apply to this step. If your Automation list adds additional filters, the two systems may return different results.
