Shift Differential FAQ

This is Time & Labor functionality. To have Time & Labor enabled, contact your Account Manager.

The Shift Differential feature empowers you to define and apply shifts to placements, and provides you the ability to pay and/or bill distinct rates based on the hours a candidate works per shift.

Contact your Account or Relationship Manager to enable Shift Differential.

Can changes be made to existing Shift Definitions?

Yes, Shift Definitions can be edited or deleted, even if they are assigned to Placements. Any updates made to existing Shift Definitions assigned to Placements will not automatically recalculate the timesheets on those Placements. However, if timesheets are reprocessed after the Shift Definition update is made, they will be recalculated.

Can updates to existing Shift Sets be made in advance?

Yes. Because Placement Shift Sets are effective dated, updates can be made in advance. It’s best practice to make a new version with a new effective date, rather than editing existing Shift Sets.

Can Placements enter time in Hours Per Day quantities while using Shift Differentials?

No, Shift Differentials can only be used with In and Out Punches. Hours Per Day time entry will not work properly for Shift Differentials.

Can Client Rate Agreements be used with Shift Differentials?

Yes. Client Rate Agreements (CRAs) can be used when Shift Differentials are set up. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • When using Client Rate Agreements with Shifts, you only need to make CRA's by position.
  • Ensure all Earn Codes are mapped to both the Client Rate Agreement and the Shift. Earn Codes added at a later date will not flow down.
