Amplify Matching Troubleshooting
If your automation isn’t creating matches or submissions as expected, don’t worry — this guide covers the most common issues with the Match Candidates step in Bullhorn Automation and how to resolve them.
These fixes apply to automations that use the Bullhorn Matching Engine to find and rank candidates for jobs in Amplify.
If you’re new to Matching and want to learn how the Bullhorn Matching Engine works, check out the Amplify Matching FAQ.
Issue: Records aren’t moving through the “Match Candidates” step
-
Possible cause:
The Automation API user may not have the necessary permissions to access the Bullhorn Matching Engine or view match results. Specifically, they might be missing the “View Autobuild” and “View Automatch” entitlements.
-
How to fix it:
Contact Bullhorn Support to review your Automation API user permissions and enable the missing entitlements. Once updated, records should progress through the Match Candidates step normally.
Issue: Records move through the “Match Candidates” step, but no matches are created
-
Possible cause:
The Match Candidates step requires a candidate list to be selected in its configuration. Without it, the automation doesn’t know which candidates to evaluate, resulting in zero matches.
-
How to fix it:
Edit your Match Candidates step settings and select a candidate list to define which candidates the system should compare against each job.
Issue: Records are moving through the Match Candidates step, but submissions aren’t created in the ATS despite using the "Create Submission in the ATS" feature
-
Possible cause:
The ATS has a 30-character limit for submission status names. If your “Create Submission in the ATS” configuration uses a status that exceeds this limit, the automation can’t complete the submission creation process.
-
How to fix it:
Shorten your submission status names to 30 characters or fewer. Then update the automation to use the revised status values before re-running the workflow.
Issue: I see matches on the “Suggested Candidate Matches” card, but no matches are being created in Bullhorn Automation
-
Possible cause:
The Suggested Candidate Matches card shows a preview of potential matches from your entire database. It doesn’t apply the same filters or settings (like distance or candidate list selection) that your Match Candidates automation step uses.
-
How to fix it:
Review your Match Candidates step settings:
-
Loosen any restrictive match criteria (for example, narrow distance ranges).
-
Update your Bullhorn Matching configuration to better align with your desired match parameters.
