Managing Existing Metrics: Growth and Corporate Editions
This guide clarifies the limitations and supported changes for metric configuration in the Bullhorn Analytics Growth and Corporate editions. Understanding these constraints is vital for effective reporting and planning.
The Analytics Growth and Corporate editions rely on a powerful but fixed set of out-of-the-box metrics. To understand the metrics available to you, check your appropriate metrics dictionary:
Growth & Corporate: Unsupported Metric Requests
The following table details the most common metric configuration requests raised by Growth and Corporate edition users that cannot be fulfilled by Bullhorn Support. These requests require an upgrade to the Enterprise Edition.
| Client Request | Responses / Limitations |
|---|---|
| Can I create a new, custom metric? (e.g., based on a new KPI or field). | No. This option requires defining custom formulas, aggregations, or advanced filtering, and is only available to Enterprise edition Metrics Admin users. |
|
Can I merge or duplicate an existing metric to filter activities? (e.g., Track Call Count by Note Type). |
No. This option requires applying custom logic and filtering to core metric definitions and is only available to Enterprise edition Metrics Admin users. Note: Contact Bullhorn Support to make the following changes for you: |
|
Can I change the date that a metric reports on? (e.g. change a placement metric to report on the invoice date instead of the created date. |
No. Only Enterprise edition Metrics Admin users can modify the date aggregation of standard metrics. The only exception is that Bullhorn Support can adjust Interview and Meeting metrics to use the Event Date instead of the Created Date upon request. (See Adjust Date Calculation of Interview or Meeting Metrics for more details. Note: You may find other standard metrics that run off different date configurations, e.g. Perm Starters (Start Date) vs. Perm Placement (Created Date). Check your standard metrics dictionary for more details. |
| Can I change the KPI Value for a metric? |
No. You cannot change the default KPI value for a metric, as they are defined out of the box. Any changes require modification of metric parameters, which are only available to Enterprise edition Metrics Admin users. |
|
Can I adjust the calculation of revenue, margin, or fees? |
No. Core financial calculations are fixed and cannot be modified, as they are predefined. Changing calculations is only available to Enterprise edition Metrics Admin users. |
| Can I change the ownership of non-activity metrics (like Placements or Sales)? |
No. Changes to non-activity metric ownership are only available to Enterprise edition Metrics Admin users Note: Bullhorn Support can change the ownership of certain activity metrics. See Modify Ownership Calculation of Activity Metrics for more details. |
If your reporting requires any of the functionality listed above, please reach out to your Account Manager to discuss upgrading to the Bullhorn Analytics Enterprise edition.
Growth & Corporate: Supported Metric Changes
While Analytics Metrics Admin users have local control to rename, hide, and adjust column visibility, Bullhorn Support must handle all functional metric adjustments for the Growth & Corporate editions of Analytics.
The following options represent the only functional metric configurations Bullhorn Support can perform for Growth or Corporate clients. All other requests will require upgrading to the Enterprise edition.
Adjust Date Calculation of Interview or Meeting Metrics
Bullhorn Support can change the date aggregation for calculating Interview and Meeting metrics:
-
Change: Update the date aggregation from Created Date (the date the record was logged) to Event Date (the date the activity occurred).
-
Applicable Metrics: Any Interview or Meeting metrics.
-
Constraint: This change must be applied universally to all Interview or Meeting metrics or none at all. It cannot be applied selectively.
Modify Ownership Calculation of Activity Metrics
Bullhorn Support can change the ownership calculation for key activity metrics.
-
Change: Modification is strictly confined to switching the default calculation from Record Owner to Record Owner and Job Owner.
-
Applicable Metrics: CVs Sent, Interviews, Meetings, and Offers.
-
Constraints:
-
Change of ownership must be applied universally to all four activity metrics or none at all. It cannot be performed using any other ownership record (e.g. Candidate or Client).
-
The system does not support configuring other ownership combinations (e.g., Record Owner and Candidate Owner).
-
Add Specific Shortlist Statuses in Pipeline Metrics
Bullhorn Support can add specific first-stage/shortlist applicant statuses (such as Shortlisted and Submitted) to your Submission metrics:
-
Change: Include or exclude specific Shortlist Statuses in Submission metrics.
-
Applicable Metrics: Any Submission metrics.
-
Constraint: Support cannot add any shortlist statuses that are beyond the initial or first stage of the submission metrics.
Adjust Note Types for Call & Meeting Metrics
Bullhorn Support can add or remove specific Note Types (e.g. Email) to your Call or Meeting metrics:
-
Change: Include or exclude specific Note Types in Call & Meeting metrics.
-
Applicable Metrics: Candidate Meetings, Client Meetings, Candidate Calls and Client Calls.
-
Constraints:
-
A maximum of 20 Note Types can be added to each metric.
-
You cannot modify a metric to filter by or exclude a specific Note Type.
You may want to remove a Note Type, such as "Email," that was initially configured for Client and Candidate Call metrics during implementation. Note that when Bullhorn Support removes it, this Note Type will be removed from both metrics at the same time.
-
Adjust Appointment Types for Interview & Meeting Metrics
Bullhorn Support can add or remove specific Appointment Types (e.g. 2nd Interview) to your Interview or Meeting metrics:
-
Change: Include or exclude specific Appointment Types in Interview and Meeting metrics.
-
Applicable Metrics: 1st Interviews, Further Interviews, Candidate Meetings, Client Meetings.
-
Constraints: You cannot filter metrics by these Appointment Types.
Adjust Placement Statuses for Placement Metrics
Bullhorn Support can add or remove specific Placement Statuses (e.g.Approved, Awaiting Approval) to your Interview or Meeting metrics:
-
Change: Include or exclude specific Placement Statuses (such as Approved, Awaiting Approval etc.) in placement metrics.
-
Applicable Metrics: Any Placement metrics.
-
Constraints: You cannot filter metrics by these Placement Statuses.
Adjust Employment Types for Placement Metrics
Bullhorn Support can map new Employment Type values (added in the Bullhorn ATS) into the appropriate Permanent/Direct Hire or Contract employment type bucket in Analytics:
-
Change: Map new Employment Type values into the appropriate Permanent/Direct Hire or Contract employment type bucket in Analytics.
-
Applicable Metrics: All Placement metrics.
-
Constraints: You cannot filter metrics by the individual employment type values (e.g., you cannot filter placements to see only "Temp" placements if "Temp" is mapped as a Contract type). The data is only filterable by the metric.
You add "Temp" as a new employment type in your ATS. You will need to get it added to your "Contract" employment type bucket in Analytics. This ensures that placements categorized as "Temp" are included in all contract-related metrics within your Analytics reports.
Other Supported Metric Configuration Changes
The following metric configurations can be made by Bullhorn Support for Growth and Corporate clients if required. Please contact Bullhorn Support to discuss these updates.
-
Adjust the default User Visibility Permission for new users
-
Change: Change the default visibility setting for all newly activated users:
-
Everyone: User can see data for all groups and users
-
Their Group: User can see data for their group, any sub-groups and all users within these groups
-
Themselves Only: User can only see their own data
-
-
Add a new Currency Value
-
New currency values added in ATS must be mirrored in Analytics to ensure accurate reporting. If not, reporting will automatically default to the Analytics default CRM currency. Note: The default CRM currency is the company-wide currency set at the highest Group level during your initial system setup.
-
Change: Map a new currency code from your ATS into Analytics.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are the answers to common questions about metric customization in Bullhorn Analytics for Growth and Corporate clients.
Can I rename a metric or hide columns in a metric clickthrough?
Yes. As an Analytics Metrics Admin, you can perform basic local customizations like renaming, hiding, showing, and customizing metric columns in your clickthroughs.
Can I create a new metric based on a custom field we added to the ATS?
No. The ability to define and create entirely new custom metrics based on unique formulas or fields is a core feature of the Enterprise edition. Growth and Corporate clients must use the standard metric set.
My team is using two different call note types, and I need a metric for each. Is that possible?
No. The ability to split a single metric (like Calls) by an underlying CRM value (like Note Type) requires custom filtering and parameter editing, which is only available to Enterprise edition clients.
Can I adjust my Analytics configuration to include specific Employment Types (perm, contract, retained, temp, fixed-term etc.)?
Yes. If you have a new employment type value in your Bullhorn ATS, contact Bullhorn Support to map this into either your Perm/Direct Hire or Contract employment type group in Analytics.
Can I filter placement metrics by the exact Employment Type (e.g., only "Fixed-Term" placements)?
No. While Support can map a new Employment Type from the ATS into the Analytics Contract or Permanent employment type buckets, you cannot filter the placement metric by the individual Employment Type value in Analytics. The data is only filterable by the main metric (e.g., Contract Placements).
I have added a new currency (JPY) to my Bullhorn ATS. Will Analytics reports show the correct values?
No, not automatically. You must contact Bullhorn Support to map this new currency code into Analytics. Until this is done, placements using the new currency will default to the Analytics default CRM currency.
I have added a new Note Type in the ATS. Why isn't it appearing in my Analytics Call or Meeting metric counts?
New Note Types must be manually mapped to the relevant Call and Meeting metrics in Analytics. Contact Bullhorn Support with details of the new Note Type, timeframe and corresponding metric.
I have added a new Appointment Type in the ATS. Why isn't it appearing in my Analytics Interview or Meeting counts?
New Appointment Types must be manually mapped to the relevant Interview and Meeting metrics in Analytics. Contact Bullhorn Support with details of the new Appointment Type, timeframe and corresponding metric.
