Bullhorn Automation Optional Settings
Bullhorn Automation includes optional settings that can be enabled by Support on request. These settings allow you to adjust how Automation interacts with Bullhorn ATS and how your system handles data.
This guide outlines the available settings, what they do, and why you might want to enable them.
To request any of these settings, please contact Support.
Field Settings
Custom Email Property
What it does:
This setting allows Bullhorn Automation to use a custom ATS field for email addresses instead of the standard email field. This applies to both Candidate and Contact records.
Why enable it:
This setting is useful if you store email addresses in a custom field rather than the standard ATS field.

Update Mass Mail Opt Out
What it does:
This setting keeps the Mailable Status field in Bullhorn Automation in sync with the MassMailOptOut field in ATS. When a Candidate or Contact unsubscribes from emails in Automation, they are also opted out in ATS.
Why enable it:
-
Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations (such as GDPR).
-
Saves time by eliminating manual updates between systems.

Generate Dropdown Values from Bullhorn Automation
This setting controls the available values for custom dropdown fields.
-
If disabled: Custom dropdown fields will display only currently mapped values.
-
If enabled: Custom dropdown fields will dynamically surface all values actively in use across any record, including unmapped historical values and those in use across multiple private labels.
Why enable it:
Helps with data cleanup by surfacing historical values that may still exist on records. This creates a self-maintaining list that supports cleanup while preventing reuse of deprecated values.

Email Settings
Send Messages Even If Opted Out
What it does:
This setting allows you to send transactional emails and text messages in compliance with regulations, even if candidates have opted out of marketing communications. Examples include essential messages such as onboarding documents for a new job. When enabled, a new option called “Include candidates who have opted out” will appear at the automation level under Automation Settings.
Why enable it:
-
Ensures opted-out candidates still receive critical, non-marketing communications like onboarding documents.
-
Helps you maintain compliance by clearly distinguishing between transactional and marketing messages.
