Add Suppression Lists to an Automation

This article explains how to add a suppression list to an automation in Bullhorn Automation, and how to combine suppression lists with re-entry settings to control when records re-enter an automation. Suppression lists let you exclude specific records from enrolling in an automation, even if they would otherwise qualify for the list criteria.

Once you have created a list, complete the following steps to add it as a suppression list to an automation:

  1. Navigate to the Automations page.
  2. Select an existing automation from the list.
  3. In the Automation Enrollment section, click Edit Enrollment.

  4. Select the box next to Add suppression lists to this automation?.

  5. Select the suppression list from the drop-down by typing in the name of the list.

    • If you have created your list from within the Automation Enrollment, you may need to refresh the page before it's visible.

  6. You should now see that list under the Excluded section and the total count for your Automation Enrollment should reflect that.

Use Suppression Lists to Restart Automations

Suppression lists work together with re-entry settings to give you precise control over when records re-enter an automation. This combination is useful when you want to temporarily exclude a group of records and bring them back in later, such as after a placement ends or a campaign resets.

  1. Configure the automation to allow re-entry, or set a re-entry window that fits your use case.
  2. Add a suppression list to the automation enrollment. Records on the suppression list are excluded from the automation even if re-entry is allowed.
  3. When you are ready for suppressed records to re-enter the automation, remove them from the suppression list.
  4. On the next list refresh, those records become eligible to re-enter the automation.

This strategy works well for placed candidates. Add them to a suppression list to pause their enrollment while on assignment, then remove them from the suppression list when you want them to re-enter a re-engagement sequence.

Suppression only prevents new enrollment. Records already active in the automation are not removed when added to a suppression list. To stop records mid-automation, pause or edit the automation directly.
