Short Meal Period
Overview
The clock will display this exception if it detects that the length of the meal period taken by an employee is less than the required minimum meal period length.
This article contains information on what an employee should do should they encounter a short meal exception when clocking in after a meal.
Short Meal Period Exceptions will override any Out-In restrictions.
Steps
- After selecting the IN option, the clock will perform calculations to determine if the meal period length meets the required minimum.
- If clock finds that the break is shorter than the required minimum, it will display the exception prompt.
- Before the IN punch is recorded, the employee must select a reason for the short meal break:
- Due to Work
- The employee might select this option if:
- The supervisor instructed the employee to return to work before taking the minimum required length for a meal period.
- Work conditions required the employee to return to work before taking the minimum required length for a meal period.
- Any other involuntary reason that requires the employee to return to work before taking the minimum required length for a meal period.
- The employee might select this option if:
- My Choice
Depending on its configuration your Cloud Clock may not display My Choice.
- The employee should only select if this option if returning to work before taking the minimum required length for a meal period was a voluntary action.
- Start Over
- The employee should choose this option to complete the duration of the required meal period and clock in again when the meal period is finished.

- Due to Work
- After submitting a reason for the Short Meal Period, the employee will return to the normal Clock IN flow.

If applicable, the employee must confirm the punch to record.
- If there is no confirmation screen the clock will record the employee's punch after capturing the exception details.
