Skill Mapping FAQ

What happens if I change ATS field values used in Skill Mapping config?

Examples of modifying the ATS field configuration used in Skill Mapping Config include:

  • Removing the value
  • Renaming the value
  • Changing the value associated with the display value
  • Changing the edit type of the ATS field

If you modify the configuration, any Linked Skill associated with the changed ATS value will become unlinked when the ATS Skill values are refreshed (either overnight or manually via Refresh All Mappings/Refresh Skill Mappings).

Any positions associated with these newly unlinked skills will show a status of Unmapped the next time Sync processes them (overnight reqList, VMS email, manual sync, etc.) and won't deliver to the ATS until re-linked.

To minimize downtime and system impact, Sync recommends the following customer workflow:

  1. Export Skill Mappings (see Export Skill Mappings for more info) to identify all confirmed links that will be impacted by the ATS config changes.
    • AKA require re-linking
  2. Make ATS config changes.
  3. Refresh Skill Mapping in VMS Sync.
    • Perform this step as quickly after ATS config is completed as possible.
  4. Re-link Type-Specialty pairs identified in the export (now found in the Unlinked tab).

What happens to a pending unmapped positions after I add a Linked Skill for it?

As soon as a link is created for a pending position, VMS Sync immediately processes all active pending positions for ATS delivery.

What happens to positions when I unlink a mapping?

Nothing immediate. If the position receives an update and a new link hasn't been created, the position will show a Skill Unmapped status and won't deliver to the ATS until a new link is created.
