Adding the Screener Engagement to an Automation
(missing or bad snippet)Once your Screener Engagement is created, you can deliver it to candidates automatically by adding it to an automation. This allows you to run pre-screening or re-engagement campaigns hands-free, helping your team identify qualified candidates quickly.
Screener Engagements are only available in Candidate-based or Submission-based automations
Steps to Add a Screener to an Automation
1. Create an Automation
In Bullhorn Automation, go to Automations and click Add Automation.
Choose your Automation Type:
Start from Scratch - Build a new automation manually.
Blueprint - Start from a preconfigured automation template.
Choose a Record Type:
Must be Candidate or Submission.
Enter a clear name for your automation.
Click Save to continue.
2. Build or Select a List
Select a list that matches your engagement goal.
Candidate-based examples:
Added less than 1 day ago
Source is “LinkedIn” or “Indeed”
No notes/placements/submissions in the past X months
Submission-based example:
Filter by the Job ID used in your Screener Engagement
3. Add the Screener Step
After selecting your list, click the + icon to add a new step.
Choose Send Engagement.
For the Engagement Type select Screener.
From the Screener drop-down, choose the Screener you previously created.
Choose a Delivery Method:
Text Message - Choose from:
From Existing: Start from a copy of an existing text message.
From Scratch: Create a brand new text message.
Email - Choose from:
From Existing: Start from a copy of an existing email.
From Template: Use a prebuilt email from your Template Library.
From Scratch (Drag and Drop): Create a formatted email using the Drag and Drop Builder.
When creating the message, leave the system-generated Start Chat button as-is. This links directly to the screener.
From Scratch (Plain Text): Create a simple text-only email, like you would send from your personal inbox.
The system automatically populates the Screener URL from your screener settings. Leave this link in place to ensure proper candidate routing.
Click Save.
Testing Your Screener
When you use the Send Test option from a Send Engagement email or SMS, Bullhorn treats it as a real candidate screening. This means a summary and score will be created for the candidate or submission record selected for testing.
To avoid cluttering real records, be sure to use test records if you’re testing this way.
If you only need to preview the screener without generating results, use the Test Screener button on the Screener Engagement edit screen instead.
