Bullhorn Field Edit Types and Bullhorn Automation List Criteria

This is an example of List Criteria in Bullhorn Automation:

When building a list in Bullhorn Automation, the options available in your List Criteria are determined by the Edit Type in the field mapping you have set up in Bullhorn ATS.

Field Mappings

To find your field mappings in Bullhorn ATS, go to Admin > Field Mappings.

The following Bullhorn ATS field mapping columns affect what content is available in Bullhorn Automation, including List Criteria:

  • Field Name: These are the technical field names assigned by Bullhorn.
  • Label: These are the field names visible to your internal users.
    • Bullhorn Automation will often display the label you have created in Bullhorn ATS, but there are certain fields with hard-coded names.
  • Edit Type: The Edit Type controls what information can be entered in the List Criteria field and how that information is entered.

Edit Types

As stated above, the edit type controls what information can be entered in the List Criteria fields and how that information is entered.

Below are the most commonly used Field Edit Types:

For a complete list of Field Edit Types, please see Understanding Bullhorn Field Edit Types in the Bullhorn ATS Help Center.

Edit Type Example Fields List Criteria Notes
Text
  • First Name
  • Email
  • Job Title
  • Contains/Does Not Contain: Best used when the value has some variation (e.g. "Accounting" when searching for Accounting Specialist/Accounting Clerk).
  • Is/Is Not: Best used when you have an exact value and a narrower target.
  • Has: Value must be present for this criteria.
  • Does not Have: The field value is blank.
  • Starts with: Gives you the ability to enter one or more letters at the beginning of the word (e.g. "Position Title > Starts With > Acc" = Accountant, Accounting, Account Executive, etc).

Drop Down
  • Status
  • Type
  • Is/Is Not: Best used to specify values (e.g. Status > Is > Active)
  • Has/Has Not: Value is present or field value is blank.
If a field has more than 50 values, Bullhorn Automation will only display the first value. However, it will use predictive text to give further options. It can also house more than one value at one time by clicking Tab following each value. These will be viewed as OR statements.

Picker / Mini Picker

  • Owner (Picker:Internal)
  • Candidate
  • Category
  • Client
  • Client Corp
  • Internal
  • Job Posting
  • People
  • Skills
  • Specialty
  • State
  • Is/Is Not: Select a field value to include or eliminate.
  • Has/Does Not Have: Field value is present or blank.
  • Is Active/Is Not Active: When referring to owners, this may be a great way to identify candidates/contacts who no longer have an active representative in your organization.

This is very similar to "Drop Down" for the user experience. However, on the back-end this field may be coded as an integer (e.g. Bullhorn User ID).

The Picker:Text:Internal field will behave in a similar way to Picker:Internal but is saved in the back-end as text. Due to the nature of this field, it can't be used to copy field values with Picker:Internal.

Phone Number

  • Has Phone Number: This will detect a value in this field including incomplete or incorrect values.
  • Does Not have Phone Number: Field value is blank.

Integer / Money

  • Desired Salary
  • Pay Rate

Distance

This field will give you the options of "Kilometres" or "Miles" from a particular location. In the United States, this will be based on Zip Code.

This is currently only available for clients in the UK and US.

Date

  • Date Available
  • Placement Start Date
  • Submission Date
  • Less Than/More Than: Dynamic date ranges based on the current date. e.g. Less than 5 days before the current date.
  • Before/After: Best used when you have a fixed date you would like to see things happen, for example, you’d like to see all placements that started On or After January 1st.
  • Has/Does Not Have: Value is present or blank.

The yellow box below the date criteria will give you an explanation of which dates will be included in your list criteria. The date specified will also be included. For the screenshot below, this would be "Start Dates On or After July 23rd".

Address Block

Bullhorn Automation doesn't take the address from the full address block field. Instead, it takes each part of the address separated into sections as a "Text" field (see below).

Address 1

  • Has Address 1
  • Does Not Have Address 1

Country

  • Country - Drop Down: A list of countries for which a user may only select one option.
  • Country - Mini Picker: A list of countries for which a user may select any number of options, and/or type in their own option.

By default, Bullhorn Automation will use the field associated with CountryID. This field type is "Drop Down", but you may come across other country fields that use a "Mini-Picker".

Building lists should be fun, exploratory, and tested out to make sure you’re targeting your desired audience.
