Creating Custom User Roles
Custom user roles let you tailor access and permissions in Bullhorn Talent Platform to match your organization's specific workflows and staffing needs. Use this article to learn how to request a custom user role and what information to include in your request.
Common Reasons to Request a Custom User Role
Custom roles are a good fit when a standard role does not match the level of access a user or group needs.
- You want to give certain users access to a specific feature, such as ordering E-Verify
An online system that confirms the eligibility of an Employee to work in the United States. The process compares information entered by an employer from an employee’s Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility., deleting signed eDocs, or editing a location. - You need a role that combines permissions from different standard roles.
- You are setting up a new team or department with unique access requirements.
- A standard role includes permissions you do not want a particular group of users to have.
- Your organization's structure has changed and existing roles no longer reflect how your team operates.
How to Request a Custom User Role
Custom user roles are created by a Talent Platform Support Analyst. To request a new role, contact Bullhorn Support and include the following:
- Base role: The existing standard role with permissions closest to what you need. This is the starting point for the custom role.
- Additional permissions: The specific permissions to add, such as "Order E-Verify," "Delete Signed eDocs," or "Edit a Location
A branch of the Company, which can be customized with a logo and brand colors." - Role name: The name you want to give the new role.
- Users: The names or accounts of users who need this role.
Custom user roles can be updated after they are created. User roles cannot be deleted from the UI. To request that a role be deleted, contact Bullhorn Support.
Troubleshooting
Use this section to resolve common questions and issues you may encounter when working with custom user roles.
If you are not sure which base role to choose
Review the Permission Comparison article to compare standard roles and their permissions before submitting your request.
If a user has a permission you did not expect
The permission may be inherited from the base role. Permissions that come with the base role cannot be removed. If this is a problem, request a new custom role using a different base role that better fits your needs.
If you need to update an existing custom user role
Contact Bullhorn Support with the role name and the changes needed. Custom user roles can be updated after they are created.
If you need to delete a user role
User roles cannot be deleted from the UI. To request deletion, contact Bullhorn Support.
If your request is taking longer than expected
Check that your original request included all required information: base role, additional permissions, role name, and the list of users. Missing details may cause delays. Contact Bullhorn Support if you need a status update.
