Getting Started with Amplify Chat
You need Bullhorn Amplify Edition to use this feature.
Amplify Chat is your conversational AI interface for Bullhorn. In a single chat window you can query, analyze, and act on information across your entire Bullhorn environment. With Amplify Chat, you can ask natural-language questions to explore your Bullhorn data, generate insights, and perform actions across multiple records.
This guide walks you through opening Amplify Chat for the first time, sending your first request, and reviewing the response. Each step links to the detailed article for that part of the workflow.
Before You Start
-
Your organization must have the Bullhorn Amplify Edition to use Amplify Chat.
-
Your Amplify Admin must enable Amplify Chat for your user type. Admins control access from Admin > Amplify Admin > Settings. See Enabling Amplify Chat for the full admin setup.
-
Amplify respects your Bullhorn permissions. If you cannot see certain data in Bullhorn ATS, you will not be able to see it through Amplify either.
Step 1: Open Amplify Chat
You can open Amplify Chat in two ways:
-
From the navigation bar (if enabled): Click the Amplify icon at the top of your Bullhorn screen.
-
From the main menu: Open your main menu, then select Amplify.
When you open Amplify Chat, you’ll land on the Chat tab. From here, you can type requests, browse prompts, or manage connected tools and data sources. For a full tour of the interface and its key elements, see Accessing and Navigating Amplify Chat.
Step 2: Try Your First Request
Type your question or request directly into the chat field, then press Enter or click the up arrow to send. Amplify can interpret conversational phrasing and will automatically use connected data sources to return results.
If you’d like a starting point, try one of these:
-
Summarize a record: “Give me a quick summary of [Company Name].”
-
Surface a list: “Show me the oldest open job listings.”
-
Analyze across records: “Create a table of clients with no new jobs added in the last month.”
-
Build a boolean search: “Create a boolean search for a senior Python developer with cloud experience.”
For more starter prompts grouped by use case (Boolean searches, candidate sourcing, job descriptions, market research, RFP support, and more), see Amplify Chat Use Cases.
You can also click Prompt Library in the Amplify Chat interface to browse ready-made prompts your admins have set up. Click any prompt to run it, and Amplify will guide you through adding any required context.
Step 3: Review the Response
For complex questions, Amplify will display a thinking indicator (“Amplify is thinking”) and outline its approach to solving your request before returning results. It may also ask clarifying questions if something is ambiguous — reply directly in the chat to refine the result without starting over.
Once Amplify returns an answer, you can:
-
Open the Sources drop-down beneath the response to see which Bullhorn data points were used. Toggle sources on or off and select Apply to regenerate. See Managing Prompt Sources in Amplify for more.
-
Click any record link in the response to open it directly in Bullhorn and take immediate action.
-
Copy a response to your clipboard by clicking the Copy icon.
-
Rate the response using Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down. If you give a Thumbs Down, you’ll be prompted to add a brief comment. Your feedback goes directly to the Amplify team and helps improve accuracy and performance.
Step 4: Follow Up and Refine
Amplify Chat keeps the context from your previous messages, so you can ask follow-up questions to clarify or adjust results instead of starting a new chat. For example, after a summary you might ask “Now show me their open jobs from the last quarter” — Amplify will continue the conversation with the same record in mind.
A few tips to get more accurate results as you go:
-
Be specific. “Summarize Acme Staffing’s open jobs for this quarter” is more effective than “Summarize Acme.”
-
Include time ranges or filters. Adding details such as “this month,” “last 30 days,” or “active jobs only” helps Amplify deliver more accurate, targeted results.
-
Use natural language. Phrase your requests as if you were talking to a colleague.
-
Start a new chat when you switch topics. Click New Chat at the top of the Amplify window to clear context. This is best when moving from one topic or data set to a different one (for example, from candidate analysis to job performance).
For more guidance, see Amplify Chat Best Practices.
Connected Tools
Amplify Chat uses different tools (data sources) to generate complete and accurate answers. Click Tools at the bottom of the chat field to manage which ones Amplify uses:
-
Bullhorn ATS: Accesses Bullhorn ATS data and functionality. Amplify can only access the data available to you based on your user permissions.
-
Bullhorn Analytics: Pulls reports and insights from Bullhorn Analytics.
-
Job Feed: Searches active jobs posted across the web.
-
Web Search: Retrieves current information from the internet.
For internal data queries or reports, you can disable Web Search to keep results focused on Bullhorn data only.
Taking Action from Chat
Amplify Chat can also help you create Notes, Tasks, and Tearsheets without leaving the chat window. You’ll always see a preview first so you can accept or decline before anything is saved. See Adding Notes, Tasks, and Tearsheets with Amplify Chat for the full workflow.
Managing Your Chats
-
Click New Chat at the top of the Amplify window to clear context and start a fresh conversation.
-
Click Chat History to view your recent conversations. Amplify automatically saves your recent conversations for 30 days. Chat history is stored per user and not shared across accounts.
If You Run Into Trouble
If something isn’t working as expected, see Amplify Chat Troubleshooting for the most common issues and how to resolve them.
