Managing Unsubscribes Using a Website Opt-Out Process

Bullhorn Automation clients may wish to control their unsubscribe options through their own website, rather than relying solely on Automation’s built-in unsubscribe links. This article outlines the process to enable this feature, along with key considerations and responsibilities for clients.

The ability to manage unsubscribes from a website opt-out process allows clients to reduce unintentional unsubscribes, which may occur when bulk emails are sent to security-conscious recipients. These recipients' security protocols may inadvertently click unsubscribe links. This setup provides clients more flexibility while allowing Bullhorn Automation to comply with email provider requirements by inserting a minimal, required unsubscribe mechanism.

Important Considerations

By enabling this feature, clients can manage unsubscribe options through their website, reducing the chance of accidental opt-outs due to bot clicks on unsubscribe links. This approach is particularly useful for high-security industries where automatic link-checking is common.

  • Unsubscribe Link Requirement: Bullhorn Automation will still insert a one-click unsubscribe link per Google/Yahoo requirements, but this link is minimized to avoid triggering bot clicks. It will remove the unsubscribe link in the email footer.
  • Client Responsibility: Clients must add an unsubscribe link to their own communications to comply with legal requirements.

Before enabling consider the following risks:

  • This feature is applied globally, to all outbound email communications.
  • Clients are at risk of legal action if they do not use this feature appropriately.
  • If clients enable this feature, they are solely responsible for ensuring they use it with caution, and manually include an unsubscribe link in their communications.
