Understanding Corporations and Private Labels
Corporations and Private Labels define the structure and workflow of your organization in Bullhorn. This article explains what each one does and when you might use them.
Understanding Corporations
A Corporation represents the highest-level container in Bullhorn. All data within a Corporation is fully isolated. If your company has two Corporations, each one functions as its own independent environment with no shared data.
Most customers operate entirely within a single Corporation. Larger or enterprise organizations sometimes use additional Corporations to separate business units that must keep data completely distinct.
Understanding Private Labels
A Private Label sits underneath a Corporation and controls the user interface and workflow for that group of users. Private Labels change how users experience Bullhorn, but do not restrict access to data.
Private Labels are often used when different divisions or business lines have unique workflows. For example, teams might require different terminology, field mappings, or view layouts based on the type of recruiting they perform.
Private Labels can control things like:
-
Entity titles
-
System settings
-
Field mappings
-
View layouts
-
Hiring workflow
However, they do not control access to features, data, or actions. Access is managed through Departments and User Types. You can learn more here: Understanding Departments, User Types, and Entitlements.
Using Multiple Private Labels
If your Bullhorn edition includes access to multiple Private Labels, you'll see a drop-down menu in the upper-right corner of Bullhorn that lets you switch between them.
If you're an admin, you can assign or remove users from your existing Private Labels. For instructions, see Change a User's Private Labels.
Only Bullhorn Support can create a new Private Label for your system.
Adding a New Private Label
If your edition allows multiple Private Labels, you might consider adding another when different business units have distinct workflows or terminology. For example, an IT staffing division and a Healthcare staffing division may each require their own interface.
Here is a simple illustration of how two business lines might differ:

Before requesting a new Private Label, remember that Bullhorn already includes powerful admin controls for managing access to records, fields, reports, and other privileges. In many cases, these tools provide everything you need without creating an additional Private Label.
