Understanding Custom Objects
Overview
Custom Objects allow you to enhance Bullhorn by adding modules to your Candidate, Contact, Company, Opportunity, Job, and Placement records (specific to each Opportunity/Job/Placement track, if desired) to capture data (e.g. Emergency Contact information) that is not standard to the out-of-the-box workflow.
- You can choose to display them on the Overview & Edit tabs, or an entirely new tab.
- The fields and data stored within these Custom Objects can be searchable (from the Additional Criteria drop-downs), and you can control access to view and edit the information by department.
- Each entity can support the below number of searchable Custom Objects with 55 fields each.
- Enterprise Edition: 10
- Corporate Edition: 2
- Team Edition: None
- Custom Objects created as part of marketplace integrations or compliance functionality do not count towards the aforementioned Custom Object limitations.
- Custom Objects can also be accessed via REST API. For more information, view our developer documentation.
How do I change the card layout for a custom object?
Contact Bullhorn Support for assistance.
Requesting a Custom Object
To request a Custom Object for your company, answer the questions in the Custom Object Setup Sheet. There is a tab for each custom object. Save and attach the spreadsheet to a ticket and submit it to Bullhorn Support.
For Each Field that You Want to Appear Within the Custom Object, Answer the Following:
- Field display name
- Field description
- Hint
- Should the field be required?
- Field Values
- Edit Type (e.g., free text, drop-down); the 55 fields available per Custom Object are broken down by the following edit type limits*:
Up to 20 of any combination of the following:

If the Edit Type requires predetermined values (such as a drop-down, mini picker, set of radio buttons or check boxes, etc.), what should those values be?
*Note that many edit types are listed under more than one bullet due to how they are classified in the database. This theoretically allows you to, for example, add 25 check box fields or 45 drop-downs. See Understanding Bullhorn Field Edit Types for more information about edit types.
