Determining Your QuickBooks File Path
Overview
When setting up or troubleshooting the QuickBooks Web Connector with BBO, you may need to verify or update the file path of your QuickBooks company file.
The file path is the location of your QuickBooks company file on either your computer or your server.
Steps
Single Company File
The most common setup is to have your BBO connect to only one company file for exporting accounting data.
- When logged into your QuickBooks company file, press F2 to open the Product Information screen.
Find the file path in the Location field under File Information. - Log into BBO and navigate to the Control Panel.
- Select Settings from the menu on the left.
- Choose Defaults.
- In the Search box, enter file path to narrow the settings.
- Verify that the file path entered in Branch.QuickBooks File Path matches the file path in the Product Information screen.
- If Branch.QuickBooks File Path is blank, copy and paste the path from the Product Information screen to the Branch.QuickBooks File Path field.
- Select
to confirm your changes.
- In QuickBooks, select OK to close the Product Information screen.
Multiple Company Files
If your BBO connects to multiple company files for different lines of business, you can designate the path on the branch level instead of in the Defaults.

Find the file path in the Location field under File Information. - While in BBO, navigate to the Control Panel.
- Select Settings from the menu on the left.
- Choose Branches.
- Locate and select the branch associated with the company file.
- Verify that the file path entered in the QuickBooks File Path field matches the file path from the Product Information screen.
- If the QuickBooks File Path field is blank or incorrect, copy and paste the path from the Product Information screen to the QuickBooks File Path field.
