Troubleshoot Email Builder Issues in Bullhorn Automation

This article covers common issues in the Bullhorn Automation Email Builder, including emails not rendering correctly, content disappearing, and images not displaying.

Email Content and Rendering Issues

Email renders incorrectly after pasting from an external program

Content copied from programs like Microsoft Word can introduce hidden formatting that conflicts with the Email Builder's JSON encoding, causing text to render incorrectly or display unexpected characters.

Paste content as plain text to remove hidden formatting. Then reapply formatting directly in the Email Builder.

Content disappears when dragging and dropping elements

Placing a dragged element inside or outside of a row incorrectly can temporarily hide parts of an existing row.

Drag the misplaced element to a different area of the email. The hidden row or content reappears when the conflict is resolved.

Custom fonts are not displaying

The Email Builder only supports standard fonts to ensure compatibility across email clients. Custom fonts are not supported unless added through an HTML block.

Use the default font options for consistent rendering, or add a custom font via an HTML block.

An element is not displaying on mobile or desktop

Elements can be configured to hide on specific device types. If a block is not visible in a test send, the Hide on setting may be enabled.

Select the element, go to the Block Options section in the Content Properties tab, and adjust the visibility settings.

Unwanted spacing appears between email content and the footer

Extra space between the email body and footer is typically caused by bottom padding on the last row or content block, or by the default signature block.

Option 1: Set the bottom spacing on the last row or content block to 0 in the Properties Panel.

Option 2: Add a signature block at the bottom of the email and include the unsubscribe link from the Special Links section to suppress the default signature.

Images Not Displaying

Image is visible in the editor but not in the test-send email

The image or HTML block may have a Hide on setting enabled, which suppresses the element when the email is sent.

Open the email in the Email Builder, click the background of the image block, go to the Layout tab, and set Hide on to OFF. Save and resend the test email.

Unable to upload an image

Images that exceed the 20MB file size limit cannot be uploaded to the Email Builder.

Compress the image to under 20MB and re-upload. Tools like TinyPNG or Squoosh can reduce file size without significant quality loss.

Images are not visible in the email preview

This is expected behavior. The email preview in Bullhorn Automation occurs before the email passes through the email server, which is the step that downloads and attaches images. Images do not load in the in-builder preview.

Send a test email to verify image display. To request the ability to preview images in the builder, submit a feature request at bullhorn.com/product-feedback.
