Web Tabs
Overview
Invenias Web tabs allow a user to view any browser-based content from inside a Record or along side a list view. Users can "Link" web site addresses for personal Profiles on websites to the individual records, so you can quickly view a Person's online profile or Company website within the built in browser. In the case of People Records, they can be setup to search for a Person or Company by Name when you open the tab and you can Parse from within Web Tabs either by downloading and parsing a Profile document (if available), or by parsing the web page or parsing selected text.
This article covers:
Updates to XING Web Tab
The Xing Custom Web Tab in a Person Record should search using the First Name and Last Name fields of the Record you are in when opening the tab. A recent update by Xing to their Search process means that the URL we have stored will not perform this action. So, if you use Xing, you will need to update that URL. One of your System Administrators should log in to Systems Preferences and access the settings for the Xing web tab by double clicking on it in the list.
Replace the current default URLs for searching People with:
https://www.xing.com/search/members?keywords=[PERSON FIRST NAME]%20[PERSON LAST NAME]
and the current default URLs for searching Companies with:
https://www.xing.com/search/companies?keywords=[COMPANY NAME OPT]
Using Web Tabs
Web Tabs are accessible from the panel on the right side of People, Company, Assignment and Programme Records and List Views. The example below shows a Person Record with the Web tabs panel highlighted:
Clicking into any tab will open up the browser window to display either the Saved URL or the URL set in system preferences:
To parse from a webtab, there are 3 options available. Each option will be described below and will take the User to the Invenias Web Parser.
Parse File
The best option is to parse a Downloadable file e.g. a CV/profile document. In the webtab, click to download the File, you will be prompted to either Parse or Save the file to your PC:
Parse Web Page
Parse Web Page will simply extract all text from the current web page you're viewing. Please be aware this includes all text such as menus, adverts, footers, etc.
Parse Selected Text
Parse Selected Text allows you to highlight only the text you're interested in before choosing to parse, allowing you to exclude the content which doesn't make sense. Please be aware this copies the underlying HTML tags and structure so is not as accurate as an actual CV document.
Link URL
You can link URLs to records by clicking on the Add Link button. This will save the current URL to the Record.
Once a page has been linked, everytime you open the webtab it will navigate to that link, rather than the standard URL for the webtab. You can change the link if you wish by clicking the Remove Link button, navigate to the new page, then click the Add Link button again.
Clicking Open Page in Browser will open the webpage using your computer's default browser.
Configuring Custom Web Tabs
Permission Required: Please note, to access System Preferences you need the "Access System Preferences" permission
To configure a custom Web Tabs navigate to System Preferences > Global Settings > Web Tabs:
Here you can see all of the web tabs that are set up in Invenias. The columns along the top of the grid show which record types these web tabs appear in. Clicking on Move Up and Move Down will change the position order that the Web Tab are presented in the application.
To create your own web tab, click the Create New Web Tab button.
To edit a Web Tab double click into a row in the table:
You can edit the name of the Web Tab by adding text to the Web Tab Name field and also give it an image by clicking the Browse button. This image will be the icon that appears on the Web Tab panel within a record.
Ticking the checkboxes will enable this Web Tab inside the adjacent record type. You will also be given additional options when you do this.
You can choose to Show Label which shows the Web Tab Name field within a record on the Web Tab panel. If this is not checked then just the Icon will show without a label.
The Open Page In Browser option determines whether the icon to open the page in your default web browser is visible.
The URL is required to load the page and show content. Copy & Paste in the URL of the site you want to appear in the new Web Tab. If you use the URL of a search website you can use the Insert Field dropdown to enter a field from the record to use as a search term.
To illustrate this, here is a URL generated by Google when you search for a basic term. If we Copy this URL and Paste it into the URL field on the Web Tab Editor we can delete the word "test" and use the Insert Field dropdown to insert a new term on which to search.
This URL will now result in the new Web Tab using Google to search for the Assignment Company name.
Advanced Options
Clicking on Advanced Options will reveal an additional window.
Add Link: Enabling this option will allow the URL to be saved to that particular Invenias record.
Open Page in Browser: Allows an icon where the user can open the page in their default browser.
