Middle Office Metrics Dictionary

Middle Office Metrics are available to all users of the Enterprise Edition of Bullhorn Analytics who also have the Bullhorn Middle Office product.

Gross Margin Reporting

Gross Margin reporting combines data for Billable Charges, Payable Charges, Direct Labor Costs and Burdens (such as federal and state taxes, workers compensation, and stipends) to produce an overall value for gross margin.

Gross Margin Calculation

The gross margin report calculation in Bullhorn Analytics is flexible and allows for additional burdened and non-burdened pay, as well as allowing for actuals and direct labor cost:

([Reg Bill Amount] + [OT Bill Amount] + [DT Bill Amount] + [Other Bill Amount]) - ((1+[Burden])*([Reg Pay Amount] + [OT Pay Amount] + [DT Pay Amount] + [Other Burdened Pay])) - ([Other Non Burdened Pay]) - ([Direct Labor Costs/Actuals])

Further Explanation of the Calculation

  • Total Bill Amount: [Reg Bill Amount] + [OT Bill Amount] + [DT Bill Amount] + [Other Bill Amount] where earning code = REG, OT (Overtime), DT (Double-Time) and Other Bill Amount is all other earn codes outside of REG, OT, and DT.
  • Burden Rate: This is the burden percentage applied globally to all payable charges. This value is stored in Bullhorn ATS, or set as a configurable value in Bullhorn Analytics during implementation. Please work with the Customer Success (CS) or Implementation teams to configure.
  • Burdenable Pay Amount: This is [Other Burdened Pay] that is tied to an earn code set configured by the CS or Implementation Team. Please work with the CS or Implementation team to configure.
  • Non-Burdenable Pay Amount: This is [Other Non Burdened Pay] that is tied to an earn code set configured by the CS or Implementation Team. Please work with the CS or Implementation team to configure.
  • Additional Costs: Actuals for individual costs or direct labor costs (DLC) that can be a value stored in Bullhorn ATS and carried over to Bullhorn Analytics. Alternatively, the Actuals can be imported via the CSV upload in Bullhorn Analytics.

The gross margin report supports up to three sets of earn codes. Please work with the CS or Implementation team if you need additional earn code sets configured.

Contribution Data

Contribution assigns the ownership of Payable and Billable charges to the Placement Commission owners, and adds General Ledger (GL) segment data. This gives managers visibility into the contributions consultants have made in combination with their General Ledger segments, such as Location, Department, and Class.
