Matching Candidates and Jobs

Overview

You can quickly match candidates and jobs or candidates and other candidates using the Match Candidates feature. This article outlines the criteria and steps for using the Match Candidates feature.

The search scans a candidate's resume to extract commonly used skills and uses them as keywords in the Jobs list search. The quality of results depends on the details in the job Description and candidate Resume fields. Vague or brief entries reduce accuracy, and unrelated content, like company info in the Description, may skew results.

Criteria for Matching Candidates

Finding Candidates that "Match" a Job

  • If the job has more than 250 words in the Description field, Bullhorn uses keywords from the Description field.
  • If the job has fewer than 250 words in the Description field
    • No file attachments: Bullhorn attempts to extract keywords from the Description field.
    • One file attachment: Bullhorn extracts keywords from the file attachment.
    • Two or more file attachments: Bullhorn asks you which file attachment to use.
  • If the job does not have content in the Description field:
    • No file attachments: Bullhorn cannot use any keywords.
    • One file attachment: Bullhorn extracts keywords from the file attachment.
    • Two or more file attachments: Bullhorn asks you which file attachment to use.

Finding Candidates that "Match" Another Candidate

  • If the primary candidate has more than 250 words in the Resume field, Bullhorn extracts keywords from the Resume field.
  • If the primary candidate has fewer than 250 words in the Resume field:
    • No file attachments: Bullhorn attempts to extract keywords from the Resume field.
    • One file attachment: Bullhorn extracts keywords from the file attachment.
    • Two or more file attachments: Bullhorn asks you which file attachment  to use for keyword extraction.
  • If the primary candidate does not have content in the Resume field:
    • No file attachments: Bullhorn cannot extract any keywords.
    • One file attachment: Bullhorn extracts keywords from the file attachment.
    • Two or more file attachments: Bullhorn asks you which file attachment  to use for keyword extraction.

Once Bullhorn identifies the candidate’s keywords, the Candidate Search opens and parses a maximum of 10 keywords into the Keywords field. These keywords are a combination of terms taken directly from the resume as well as related terms. If you matched a job, the application also parses the job's zip code (with the idea that you want candidates who live within a close vicinity of the job location) and a radius of 20 miles (which you can adjust).
