Converting a Lead

Learn how to convert a qualified lead into a contact, candidate, company, and/or opportunity record.

Once a lead is qualified as a business prospect, convert it into a contact or candidate — and a company, if needed. If the lead has a job to fill, create an opportunity at the same time. Converting carries information from the lead record over to each new record, all in a single workflow.

Once you convert a lead, you can change its status, but you can't undo the conversion.

What You Can Create and What Carries Over

You can convert a lead into any of the following record types:

  • Contact

  • Company

  • Candidate

  • Opportunity

If the fields aren't hidden in your database, Bullhorn automatically carries over:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Occupation
  • Company
  • Email
  • Phone number fields

Converting a Lead

  1. On the lead record, select Convert.

  2. To convert the lead to a company:

    • If the company doesn't have a Bullhorn record yet, under Associate To Company, select New.

    • If the company already has a record, under Associate To Company, select Existing, then use the picker to locate it.

  3. To convert the lead to a contact or candidate:

    • If they don't have a Bullhorn record yet, select New.

    • If they already have a record, select Existing, then use the drop-down to locate them.

  4. Under Create New Opportunity, select Yes to also create an opportunity record.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Select the opportunity type.

  7. Complete any remaining fields.

If you chose to associate the lead with a new company, contact, or candidate, you'll create those records here too.

  8. Click Save.

Once saved, the lead's status changes to Converted.
